Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is such a joyous time of year full of entertaining friends and family, lighting diyas and fire crackers, and of course — cooking up plenty of sweet treats and delicious food.
To celebrate Diwali this year, international chef Sarah Todd joined forces with one of our local Simonds New Home Specialist, Ishwar, to cook up a feast of Diwali favourites in our newly opened Tallowood 52 in Berwick Waters. On the menu, crowd-pleasers for the whole family such as: Dahi Puri, Carrot Halwa and Seviyan.

Whether you're cooking up a storm for your own family, or you're hosting friends and extended family for big celebrations, you want to know that your dishes are quick, easy-to-make and most of all delicious.
To start, you can't go wrong with Dahi Puris. "Diwali is all about the snacks," Sarah says. "With puris, they're morsels that hold all of the goodies inside. They're interactive too, so it's a fun dish to make with the kids and the best part is that you can make them your own with different fillings," she adds. Follow Sarah's lead and try her recipe for a Dahi Puri with tamarind chutney, mint chutney and a festive ginger yoghurt.
Along with savoury favourites, you of course need some sweet recipes up your sleeve!
Seviyan, a vermicelli pudding style dish, is a simple and speedy Indian treat that delivers both a toasted sweet and fragrant spiced kick. Keep the leftovers in the fridge (if there are any) and you can keep coming back for more after your festive celebrations.
Last but not least, Carrot Halwa is a widely loved fresh and creamy dish that's perfect for getting the vegetables into the kids — what's not to love!
